This piece really reminds us of an earlier limited edition print Peter produced: 'One At A Time Please' with the Impossimal character weighing himself and looking a bit rotund. Perhaps this is the cake he ate beforehand!
The ingredients for this latest limited edition print, sent by Peter Smith himself: take one 'Impossimal' character, one giant cupcake with a cherry on top, make the background warm and homely and viola, you have 'Cake O'clock.'
It's 10 to 9.00 pm in this piece and I think the Impossimal is thinking to himself: do I break my diet and eat this gorgeous cake after dinner?
Cake O'clock is another fitting addition to the Peter Smith art range and this particular one is printed onto paper, comes pre mounted (white borders) and will need to be framed.
'Cake O'clock' is a new Peter Smith limited edition, this version comes printed onto box canvas and the beauty of it is that it can hang immediately on your wall once delivered.
A lovingly created naive artwork, Peter displays his trademark wit and humour here with the character in a quandary: 'How long before I can eat this cupcake? It is rather heavy.'
Why do these naive character paintings work so well? There is no nose, just two dots to indicate it and no hands or feet, just little round objects that remind you of hooves.
For all intent and purposes the little man is expressionless and yet we are able to project lots of emotions and hunger pains onto him! This is the artistic magic of Peter Smith.
